Along with discussing his upcoming film, I Got The Hook-Up 2, Master P recently appeared on The Breakfast Club to discuss Nipsey Hussle’s posthumous Humanitarian Award presented at the 2019 BET Awards.
The 49-year-old rapper mentioned BET Networks’ Executive Vice President and Head of Programming Connie Orlando’s June appearance on the popular radio show where host Charlamagne tha God asked Orlando whether or not Nipsey would’ve received the award while he was alive.

“I [saw] when you asked about the Nipsey Hussle thing and you didn’t go too in detail with it, but I liked what you said: ‘Was Nipsey up for that [award] before he passed?’ and she told you, ‘no’,” Master P recalled. “And I was like, that was crazy because a humanitarian award—we’ve been in the community for years, over 20-something years, Snoop Dogg ... y’all know Nipsey my dog, that’s my boy … but give people their flowers while they’re here. Don’t just get caught up into the hype.”
Basically, Master P is expressing what many have previously expressed regarding the mass support for Nipsey since his t*ragic k*illing, particularly the sincerity in it.
As Sonya Magett reported for The Root back in April, Nipsey’s philanthropic efforts have long been recognized by locals in Los Angeles, and as Master P noted, community-building within the hip-hop industry is not a new phenomenon.
Regardless, Master P is interested in speaking with Orlando about his issues regarding the networks’ seemingly abrupt approach in showing the late rapper some love. According to People, Master P recorded a song with Nipsey for his upcoming sequel just two days before the young rapper was k*illed.
