A man in Dallas, Texas, who came to the aid of a woman in an altercation is dead after a gunman opened fire.
Raylon “Rambo” Kyon Jones, 38, was breaking up a fight outside a convenience store in the early morning hours Tuesday, police told The Dallas Morning News.
Officers discovered an injured Jones lying in a field nearby with multiple gunshot wounds on Sept. 10. He was transported to a local hospital, and it was there that he later died from his injuries.
The woman, who has not been identified, was reportedly fighting a man, also unidentified, outside a convenience store. That is where Jones intervened, according to KTVT.
Upon reviewing surveillance footage, police learned the shooting actually occurred across the street. According to authorities, the video shows Jones being hit by bullets, running to TMA Grocery and falling in the lot in the back of the building.
The suspect fled the scene by car, reported WFAA. He was taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries to his face and remained hospitalized Tuesday, police told the news station. He is set to be charged with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor assault. While his name has yet to be released, the Dallas Morning News reported the suspect is 48 years old.
Jones was a member of the Dallas-Fort Worth Trail Riders Association, a not-for-profit association that includes 21 riding clubs in the Dallas-Forth Worth area. On Facebook Tuesday, the organization, whose participants ride horses, 4-wheelers and party wagons, remembered Jones.
“Texas Express we extend our condolences, prayers, and love to each of you as well. BJ and Tina sending prayers of comfort!! Cowboy Rambo will continue riding with you!! 😪😪😪🙏🙏🙏,” read the message dedicated to Jones, who was a member of the Texas Express Relay Team.
Other members of the organization — both living in the area and residing in other cities and states — poured out with messages of condolences for Jones and his family.
“Gone to soon! Praying for the family! Death is never easy! You will be missed”
“We will miss you dearly. I’m so hurt to hear that you are gone and I love you so dearly.”

“Been knowing this guy for almost 35yrs, always been a good person, R.I.P.”
Police say an investigation into the shooting that claimed Jones’ life is ongoing.
