The Butterfly iQ is attempting to change the way doctors are able to diagnose medical issues. Dr. John Martin, chief medical officer of the Butterfly Network, was testing the handheld ultrasound device when he decided to scan his neck, where he had noticed an unusual “thickness.” The technology, connected to a smartphone app, alerted him that he had cancer, at a much earlier stage than would have otherwise been detected.
