- The BLF issued a controversial statement claiming that white people created cyclone Idai - The tropical cyclone has devastated Mozambique and the party has called on the African Union to claim for damages from the European Union - South Africans reacted angrily to the claims and questioned the intellect of the BLF’s leader
Black First Land First (BLF) issued a very controversial statement on Friday. Although the political party is no stranger to controversy, this one incurred the wrath of many South Africans. The BLF stated that cyclone Idai, which is wreaking havoc in Mozambique, was not a natural disaster, but rather a consequence of the polluting ways of the West.
The statement went on to say that the West is guilty of mass murder for the lives lost as a result of the cyclone. The BLF is therefore calling on the African Union to demand reparations from the European Union.
The statement evoked a harsh reaction from bemused South Africans.

More and more tweeps ended up mocking the controversial political party. Some even lashed out at the IEC for allowing the BLF to contest the upcoming elections.
