Aliko Dangote is the richest black person in the world, with a staggering $14.1 billion to his name.


He is also the richest per/son in Africa. Fellow countryman Mike Adenuga follows him wi/th a fortune of $5.3 billion.

Other people who make up the list are Mich/ael Jordan, Strive Masiyiwa, Oprah Winfrey, Isa/bel dos Santos and Mo Ibrahim.

1. Aliko Dangote

The ceme/nt tycoon is the richest per/son in Africa and the richest black person in the world with an estimated wo/rth of $14.1 billion. He is also into the su/gar and flour busine/sses. Dangote Cement is the largest ceme/nt manufacturer in Africa. He has also founded the Dangote Fou/ndation, with focus on health, education and agri/culture.

2. Mike Adenuga

With m/ajor investme/nts in oil, Mike Adenuga has an esti/mated worth of $5.3 billion, and he also has interests in telecoms, real estate and bank/ing. Globacom, which he owns, is the se/cond largest operator after MTN in Nigeria with more than 30 million sub/scribers as of now. He is usually known in Nigerian business and social ci/rcles as the "Guru." He obt/ained an MBA from Pace Univer/sity and interestingly, he used to drive a t/axi. He runs Conoil Producing which is one of the largest indigen/ous oil exploration and producing compan/ies in Nigeria today. He also ha/s lots and lots of propert/ies in Ghana and Nigeria.


3. Robert Smith

Robert Smith, sits at an esti/mated worth of $4.4 bi/llion. He is a former Goldman Sachs executive, and he started n Aust/in, Texas-based private equity and venture ca/pital firm Vista Equity Partners in 2/000. It has made a lot of admirable progress such that it n/ow has over $30 billion in assets under manag/ement, and is one of the world's most succ/essful hedge funds.

4. Oprah Winfrey

Can you imag/ine what TV would have been like without the stel/lar talk show prowess of Oprah Win/frey? She has a worth of $2.7 billion, and "The Op/rah Winfrey Show" was her gateway to loads and loads of success as a me/dia mogul and also a big media personality. 5. Isabel dos Santos

The daugh/ter of the former Angolan president Jose Eduardo dos Santos. She is the rich/est woman in Africa with a worth of $2.6 b/illion. She was once at the helm of Sonangol, the Angolan state-owned com/pany but the new government of Joao L/ourenco removed her from the post and is now que/stioning her tenure, with allegat/ions of financial impropriety, allegations which she denies.


At 45, she is the young/est black billionaire in the world.

6. Patrice Mo/tsepe

Patrice Motsepe has massiv/e investments in mining. He is the CEO of Afr/ican Rainbow Mi/nerals, a listed mining company that owns fe/rrous and base metals, platinum and coal operations in South Africa. His/ worth is estimated around $2.5 billion. He al/so owns the South Afric/an football club Mamelodi Sundowns.

7. Folorunsho Ala/kija

At $1.7 billion, she is the vice cha/ir of Nigerian oil company Famfa Oil. She is Nige/ria's richest woman. Famfa Oil owns a stake in A/gbami oil field, a prol/ific offshore asset. She was once a secretary at a merchant bank in Ni/geria, went into fashion designing in En/gland and foun/ded a Nigerian fashion label that catered to upscale cliente/le, including Maryam Babangida, wife to Nigeria’s former military presi/dent Ibrahim Babangida.

8. Michael Jordan

Litera/lly, the face of Bask/etball. And, with all those Jordan sneakers, his estimated wor/th is $1.65 billion. 9. Strive Masiyiwa

Strive Masiyiwa is Zimb/abwe's first billionaire, at $1.39 billion. Masi/yiwa is the founder of Econet Group, a Zimbabwe-listed mobile ph/one company that also has inves/tments in financial services, insurance, e-comm/erce, renewable energy, education, Coca-Cola bott/ling, hospitality and payment gateway solut/ions. Econet has the largest mobile subscriber base in Zim/babwe.

10. Michael Lee-Chin

At $1.19 bi/llion, Lee-Chin owns a 65% stake in National Com/mercial Bank Jamaica. He is a Cana/dian of Jamai/can origin.

11. Mohamed Ibrahim

Mo Ibrahim has a value of around $1.18 billion. His initial fortu/ne came as the founder of Celtel, an African mob/ile phone company, which he sold to MTC of K/uwait for $3.4 billion in 2005. He made himself $1.4 bi/llion. His major focus now is improving the lives of Africans thr/ough the Mo Ibrahim Foundation./
