Cpl. C.B. Fleming playing dolls with Black kids

South Hill, VA — South Hill Police Cpl. C.B. Fleming has been receiving praises for his admirable act on Valentine’s Day. The “cool cop” was caught on camera laying on the ground playing with children in the Virginia neighborhood.

Cpl. Fleming was called to Mecklenburg Manor on February 14th for a gas leak issue. After establishing it was a false alarm and the area was found safe, he decided to approach a group of kids and play with them.

Iesha Roper-Boswell, a local mother, took her camera out and snapped some pictures and videos of Cpl. Fleming while he’s coloring with some boys and playing dolls with the girls. She shared the pictures and videos on a Facebook post.

“I was telling him that my daughter, my niece, and some of the other children here were afraid of cops,” Iesha told CNN. “So when he came and played with them, I captured that moment, not because I thought it would go viral, but it was amazing that my niece didn’t break out into tears.”

Iesha’s post actually went viral and was shared over 500 times. A lot of people are praising the officer who tried to work on changing the children’s impression on the police and bond with the community. Not only did the kids enjoy, but Cpl. Fleming himself!

“Y’all give me more credit than I deserve but I do appreciate the love,” Cpl. Fleming wrote a comment on Iesha’s Facebook post. “Plus who doesn’t like playing and coloring with kids?!? It’s probably my favorite thing to do.

They were so kind to me and I’m so thankful they allowed me to play with them today.”

Though it wasn’t really a part of his job, the 15-year veteran in the force said he really finds some ways to somehow make a difference in the world.

“When I got into this job, I knew there was something different, other than just writing tickets and being the bad person all the time. I figured if I could be that bright spot in someone’s day, then that’s all that mattered,” he said.

That’s why the community is more than grateful to have him as a law enforcer.

“He’s awesome. That’s the only word you can really use to describe C.B.,” Iesha said. “It’s just amazing, the bond he has with the children.”
