Footage of Kobe Bryant going 1-on-1 with Mathew Knowles, aka Beyoncé's dad, recently resurfaced online. The game between them happened while on the set for Destiny Child's "Bug A Boo" music video, and from what made it online it looked as though Kobe didn't do so hot.
During an interview, the former Lakers player commented on the video that Knowles originally shared on his Instagram.
"I don't remember trash talk. ... Well I think I did actually," he comments upon being shown the clip. "I lied. I think I did. I think I was like, 'Oh yeah, you played basketball. This move's a lot faster in person, isn't it?' That was fun." Laughing the clip off, he was then asked how that quick match of theirs even came about. "Well, I mean I was on the video set, I was in the video 'Bug A Boo,' and I had known Beyoncé and Kelly [Rowland] for a long time," he explained.
"Our careers were parallel tracking, I was just starting to try to come into my own, they were trying to do the same thing," he continued. "We were kind of ascending at the same time, so I was in the video and Mathew was talking about how he plays ball and all this, that, and the other. There was a lot of downtime, and you know I had a lot of energy so I'm like, 'Well, let's just hoop.'"

As for how he fared against Bey's father, he said, "I don't remember him scoring another basket after that." Implying that Mathew Knowles deliberately cut the clip to show parts where he was doing his best, he said, "I think that he posted the one that he scored. But, yeah I mean, I had to be nice a little bit."
Despite playfully brushing off that one layup Knowles managed to bag, he did compliment his abilities. "The left, right, he put a little English on it...I mean, the jab step, it was authentic, right?"
