Siwela Jeffrey Baloyi took to social media on Thursday to share the news of his epic graduation. He revealed his delight at earning a PhD in Chemical Engineering at Wits University on 12 July. The young man labelled it a “beautiful and terrifying process” as he shared a bit of his background in his post via Twitter.

Baloyi explained how he was forced to battle poverty while growing up in his village. Briefly.co.za understands that Baloyi grew up with 10 siblings and his mother tragically lost her life while he was 13 years of age. He also expressed his delight at achieving the milestone at such a young age.

Briefly.co.za noted that his tweet went viral as more than 1 000 people liked the post. UCT Vice-Chancellor, Mamokgethi Phakeng, was one of many who heaped praise on Dr Baloyi.
