Tamar Braxton has teamed up with her boyfriend, David Adefeso, to shed light on a matter that affects millions of women around the world — the fact that they are a*bused, battered, and disrespected by men.
The singer shared a video that caused an uproar in Nigeria. In the clip, Ishaku Elisha Cliff Abbo, a Nigerian member of parliament can be seen s*lapping and physically a*busing a young woman inside an a*dult s*ex toy shop in Abuja.
Ishaku ab*used the woman in front of a p*olice o*fficer who was in no rush to intervene. Tamar posted the video and explained that some women do not have a voice to express their p*ain and s*truggle, and she is taking the opportunity to honor them.
Tamar said: “Getting my life here at #essencefestival2019 25th year anniversary celebration and getting ready to get all the way down later at the convention center with my friends at AT&T. The festival has been for the greater part of a quarter century and continues to be, a forum for the empowerment of black women for black women by black women. And while we have so much more to accomplish, there is no doubt that we have come a long way in empowering our young daughters to believe that they too can rise to the greatest heights of accomplishment and they are limited only by the size of their dreams. As evidence, we stand on the precipice of very possibly having two black American presidents within one single quarter century, and one of them could very well be a black woman!”
She went on to explain: “As we celebrate our accomplishments, we also recognize that we act as a shining example to many other black women around the world, many of whom still struggle to find a voice. Until they do, we will speak for them. That’s the spirit of #essencefest 🎯🌟*this is a CCTV footage of a sitting senator in Nigeria physically a*ssaulting a woman in an adult toy store in the presence of a p*olice o*fficer. Her only c*rime was asking “Oga to “please take it easy” smh*”
David, who was born in Nigeria, took the opportunity to add: “My @tamarbraxton 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 thanks for showcasing how so many women of color around the world still continue to endure physical and emotional a*buse from the very men who should be protecting them. And thanks to #essencefest for empowering our black women and showing how much good can come from uniting as a people for the upliftment of our beautiful black women around the world. More power to you, ladies💪🏽💪🏽. We your men stand in full support #essencefestival2019 #empoweringblackwomen.”
Many are applauding the couple for shedding light on the critical cause.
