Pike Carlson was playing outside his home in Colorado with his brother, Gage, when a mountain lion a*ttacked the 8 year old.

Gage, who saw what happened, ran inside to call for help. The mountain lion grabbed ahold of Pike by his head and d*ragged him under a tree, but the little boy bravely tried to f*ight off the scary beast.

“I was just p*unching, trying to grab anything that I can, like a stick. I did find a stick and I tried to get it in the eye but soon the stick snapped.” Pike told WZZM.

Pike’s father, Ron, dashed outside with a k*nife to scare the animal away not once stopping to consider that the mountain lion could ki*ll him.

“His head was inside the lion’s mouth and I watched – and I think that’s what made me snap inside – watching it chew on him. That parental instinct to protect your child kind of kids in. It never even entered my head that I was about to tangle with something that could k*ill me. All you know is you have to do something. It doesn’t matter what happens to you, you’ve got to protect your children.” Ron told NBC.

Ron further recalled, “He told me ‘Dad, all animals have a vulnerable spot, their eyeballs. So he picked up a stick that was underneath the tree and was reaching back trying to poke it in the eye.”

Pike sustained severe i*njuries on his head and his face. “There was b*lood all over him. His scalp was r*ipped open in several spots. It was something that no parent should ever see.” Ron said.

The family called 911 and transported Pike to a nearby fire station. Paramedics then rushed him to a hospital in Denver where he has already had two surgeries.

“Our young patient had his second surgery yesterday, he continues to persevere and remain brave while healing. Your ongoing thoughts, prayers and support are appreciated. He had surgery to repair multiple lacerations to his head and face. He will need time for additional treatment and healing. We thank everyone for their overwhelming support, expressions of concern and offers of help.” A spokesman for Platte Canyon Fire Protection District said.

Following the b*rutal at*tack, CPW arrived at the family’s home in Bailey, Colorado to track down and k*ill the animal responsible for a*ttacking Pike.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife, part of the local authority, said, “The boy was a*ttacked at 7:30 pm Wednesday, sustaining serious in*juries. The following day, while CPW wildlife officers and USDA Wildlife Services officials were already in the immediate area searching for the mountain lion responsible for the a*ttack, two lions had ki*lled and started feeding upon a domestic goat.

“Federal Wildlife Services officials euthanized the two male mountain lions seen at the goat carcass. CPW then submitted DNA samples from both mountain lions for analysis because they fit the description of the a*ttacking lion and were in close proximity to the att*ack site.”

Pike is now at home with his family and has managed to remain in good spirits.

We wish this brave little fi*ghter a speedy recovery!
